Our House was written by Madness entalist Cathal Chas Smash Smyth and guitarist Chris Foreman. In the liner notes of a 1986 compilation album, Smyth said Our House grew from the idea that each band member would write about his family. Smyth: No one else bothered. I did. The song marked the group’s first time working with string arranger David Bedford.
