Who We Touch is where that all changes. On this 2010 album, the Charlatans recapture their sense of adventure, something that is immediately apparent once the album kicks off with the neo-shoegaze swirl of Love Is Ending, simultaneously the loudest and lightest they’ve been in years. Love Is Ending ushers in a rush of sound, the textures taking precedent over groove but not at the expense of the songs, which remain smoothly assured.
So, existentially, culturally, commercially, Who We Touch is a big record for The Charlatans. In places, you may hear echoes, or homages, reflecting music the band collectively hold dear The Stooges, The Byrds, the Madchester sound - but they are still unmistakably themselves, only remodelled, reimagined, re-energized. So, I believe this is the Charlatans' 11th Studio album. The Charlatans are in my list of top ten artists and I'm always excited when they have a new release out. Unfortunately, the only word I can sum-up their latest effort with is "disappointing".
Their eleventh studio album, Who We Touch, was released on 6 September 2010 on Cooking Vinyl Records, and included the single "Love Is Ending". The album charted at No. 21 in the UK Albums Chart . The Charlatans announced details of their twelfth studio album Modern Nature, to be released on 26 January 2015 on their new label BMG Rights Management.
Tellin' Stories is the fifth album by the British alternative rock band The Charlatans, released on 21 April 1997. It includes the final contributions of founder-member and keyboard player Rob Collins who died in a car accident midway through recording. The album was their most commercially successful, having three top ten singles, which remain their career's highest charting.
