The Incredible String Band is the debut album by the band of the same name, released in Britain in 1966 by record label Elektra. It is the only one of the band's albums to feature the original trio line-up with Clive Palmer, Robin Williamson and Mike Heron. The trio had been signed to Elektra Records by Joe Boyd, who had seen them play in Glasgow. They recorded the album at the Sound Techniques studio in Chelsea, London in one afternoon in May 1966, with Boyd as producer

In the preliminary round of nominations for the 50th Grammy Awards the boxed set was under consideration for a number of awards, including, Best Recording Package, Best Liner Notes and Best Historical Album. The compilation did not, however, make it the final round of nominees.
A string band is an old-time music or jazz ensemble made up mainly or solely of string instruments. String bands were popular in the 1920s and 1930s, and are among the forerunners of modern country music and bluegrass. During the 19th and early 20th centuries, other stringed instruments began to be added to the fiddle-banjo duo that was essential to dance music of the early 19th century United States.
The Reel World String Band is an all-women American roots music band from Kentucky. Their first record was released in 1981. In 1991, band members Karen Jones and Bev Futrell had a radio show, 'Wominsounds' which was broadcast through Central and Eastern Kentucky from the Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond. The two-hour show was focused on music, readings, and announcements of events for women.
