well its christmas 2014 and here i sit writing another review on another who item, hey i love it so its a great way to spend the day, anyway this is a very great 4 cd set, the 2 shows here in question from september 1979 where warm up shows right before the who did a sold out 5 night stint at madison sq garden in nyc, i remember these shows very well but it was (even 35+ years ago) hard as hell to get tickets to this and mostly music industry people and radio stations had the tickets, anyway these 2 warm up gigs where awesome and the hype that surrounded them was unreal as THE WHO WHERE BACK A YEAR AFTER KEITH FINALLY TRAGICALLY PASSED AWAY and what seemed to be on most peoples minds was HOW IS KENNY JONES GOING TO FILL KEITHS SHOES well if you buy this great 4 cd set you will clearly hear there was only one keith moon and nobody could fill his shoes BUT regardless of what you may hear THIS WAS A GREAT, PROBABLY THE LAST GREAT REAL WHO TOUR TO EVER HAPPEN, kenny pulled it off fine on this tour, basically the set list was a mish mash of what would have been done had there been a who are you tour and you get 2 songs live here that where never done live again after 1980 TRICK OF THE LIGHT & THE MUSIC MUST CHANGE as this was the belated who are you tour, also you get some wild jams pete was doing with the ox and kenny as well as a few covers like big boss man and alright now, if you get the 6 cd box of the garden shows there was a bit more even demoed stuff that became the track on face dances how can you do it alone, like i said it was a very mish mash set for this whole tour wich made it great and the who roared back in with such power in mid 1979 it was fantastic, us kids then just wondered why roger lost the long hair as that was not the norm in 1979, anyway these where just 2 warm up gigs as i explained, the sound quality on these 2 bootlegged gigs are what i would grade as audience b- sound, the first 2 discs are the first night and even listening to this you can totally hear how drunk and wacked pete was during night #1 that is why the set list is a bit shorter for the first night and longer on the second 2 discs wich where the second night, if this was a soundboard recording this would make an unreal live who album, anyway after autumn 1979 the who would not come back to this area again until 1982 and by then things changed and not for the better sadly, if you want raw blown out post keith moon gigs GET THIS as these where the first 2 who gigs in the us since the who by numbers tour ended in october 1976, this may not be of the best sound quality but if you are a huge who fan like i have been since 1978 YOU WILL LOVE THIS.................................once again i have always felt like this was the last real who tour where the band still had that 60s and 70s energy live, if you listen to live stuff from 1982 it was almost like night and day..................................this is the shit!!!!
