Greatest Hits (sometimes referred to as Kenny Rogers' Greatest Hits) is the second compilation album by country music superstar Kenny Rogers. It was released in September 1980 and issued by Liberty Records. The album marks Rogers' first release after United Artists Group merged with Liberty. The album has achieved diamond certification.
This Greatest Hit's album originally came out LONG before "The Gambler" phase where Kenny went full on country/pop. Most (if not all) of the material here is pre 1970 and it's got an edge to it. Personally I wore this album out way back when. Lyrically it's as strong, angry and at times as angst ridden as any contemporary alt/emo. At the same time melodically all the Pleasant Valley, Harper Valley PTA mothers (and their mother's little helpers) could hum blithely along.
