back in stock on the sundazed/modern harmonic bandcamp or sunra-mh bandcamp. possibly available on their site too.
If you are in Miami, Sweat Records are selling a brand new copy for $40
Is there no hope of a reissue? 1,000 copies seems to be a bit low for rare Sun Ra.
There is a standard black pressing being released a week from now. This limited was just a "First Release" apparently.
Review of disc #1=============I have only played 1 disc so far since 3 LPs is way too much to get into in one go. However I have listened to the disc around ten times now (actively, in the same room) and am familiar with the sound so hopefully this is information that could be of use.‘Exotica' is unquestionably Sundazed’s finest hour, not just musically (they’ve had many “finest hours”) but in terms of the record & mastering. The sound quality is really really outstanding, perfect even. I cannot fault it at all. All the subtleties of the various recordings come through with very generous dynamics and atmosphere. Hate to sound like a HiFi reviewer but you can hear the air around each instrument - never really understood what that meant until now. Pressing it at Third Man clearly has something to do with it as well so worth checking out any future releases pressed there (I play it on a VPI Scout 2.0 + Nagaoka MP-200 cart)
I've rolled my eyes at some of Modern Harmonic's other Sun Ra releases - their series of singles & EPs of a couple random previously-available tracks with one equally random unissued track to rope in the completists are pretty shameless cash grabs - but this is a well-done collection. Next time a friend asks you where to start with Sun Ra, direct them towards this & the "In The Orbit Of Ra" comp.
It's a nice entry point compilation into one of Sun Ra's universes. Modern Harmonic target seams to be hipsters with ca$h. 90% of the tracks on this compilation I have on regular Sun Ra records (which are more or less easy to find and afford). The rest are strategically well places tracks from more rare recordings (which should also mobilise Sun Ra completionist nerds like myself). hip artwork here, remaster there and bling-bling color pressing over there: Sun Ra records that were always dear to me have been recorded lo-fi, with hiss and noise and Sun Ra's house telephone is ringing in the back - no matter how often you repackage, re-master, and no matter how many mediators will try to monetise and capitalise Sun Ra Arkestra's art it will always just be their music - so listen to the music and don't collect things: What do you do when you know that you know, that you know that you're wrong? Face the music! Listen to the cosmic song!
These records are so quiet I heard that my tone arm needed a slight adjustment between tracks. My only concern is, that in playing this album, I may have summoned some very powerful forces in my apartment.
I have very early pressings of some of the albums these tracks are sourced from and I gotta say, this pressing blows them away. Dead silent, dynamic cut from Kevin Gray.
great quality, great pressings. really nice liner notes. another solid comp from modern harmonic. includes unreleased music on each side. this shouldnt be more than $45-50.
Anyone comment on the quality of the pressing? I've gotten many off center pressings from TMR but have seen some recently that seems like they're stepping up their game. Any issues with this press?

Pressing quality is phenomenal. Third Man Records used to use United Records Pressing for their vinyl. This is not a TMR release but rather is pressed at their new Detroit Third Man Pressing plant (they don't do TMR titles exclusively). The problems that existed at URP are absent from the new plant. I do not however see the Third Man etchings on this release.
Sold out EVERYWHERE!! Happy I got mine!! This guy was selling it for $60 on Saturday, raised it to $200 today...
I got this for $50, and I can say its worth that much. Records sound great and clean, music is great, all-around excellent bundle. If you can find one of these for a decent price I'd say get it.
I paid roughly the same amount after taxes and I have to say this sounds fantastic.
