This song, 'Lilith,' became our title track for a reason; it perfectly encompasses the mood of our third studio album with a groove that drips sensuality while remaining heavy hitting. The vocals on this song run the gamut between soaring harmonies to the deep growls and screams that we’ve become known for in our eight years as a band. The lyrics are a glimpse at not only the classic Lady Bathory tale, but a look at ageism in today’s society and the idea that some women will do anything to maintain their youthful beauty
Songs have been written about every topic imaginable, but the best ones - from swooning '50s ballads to contemporary club bangers - have been penned about the ups and downs of being in love. We are counting down the top 50 Hot 100 hits with a form of the word "love" in the title. The romantic tunes cover all seven decades of the Hot 100's history, ranging from 1958's "To Know Him Is to Love Him" by the Teddy Bears to 2011's "We Found Love" by Rihanna. The first single from Beyoncé's first post-Destiny's Child album ("Dangerously in Love") became the first No. 1 of her solo career. I asked Jay to get on the song the night before I had to turn my album in," Beyoncé told Billboard.
Lady Sings the Blues was Billie Holiday’s last album for producer Norman Granz’ Clef Records & Verve Records. The sessions were recorded during 1954 and 1956, and released late in 1956 in conjunction with her autobiography of the same name. Holiday is in top form, backed by many jazz greats including tenor saxophonists Budd Johnson and Paul Quinichette, trumpeters Charlie Shavers and Harry Sweets Edison, pianist Wynton Kelly, and guitarist Kenny Burrell. These autumnal sides bear the frayed vocal moments that brought so much depth to Lady’s late career.
