I agree with Frulas [below], as this essential disc purveys techno in the purest form prior to adulteration as "tech-house" beyond 1999. At 76.5 minutes consisting of a whopping 17 tracks deftly mixed by venerable legend Acquaviva, this album still holds up well 20 years later and just keeps on giving. Overall, a great overview of classic artists from the Plus8, intellinet, Probe, Novamute, Telepathic, etc. roster; so Thanks to Virgin Canada for releasing this back in 1996. Being a TURNING SHRINES fan since the pre-PTV days, it was the inclusion of Fred Gianelli's contribution [as track 1] that caught my eye when I encountered a bargain listing (with free shipping!) on an online auction site. I also have the LFO vs FUSE track on both vinyl and CD editions of an Intellinet compilation, so the inclusion of "Loop [Fuse Mix]" here was like encountering a welcoming old friend. The PLASTIKMAN track (the best song on this whole offering of 17 aural treats; just my opinion) towards the end is an unbeatable climax. Do yourself a BIG favor: seek this out, don't pass it up-- grip it hard and fast!

Transmissions Vol. 1 is a classic DJ mix that closely represents the era of tech-house it was released in. Much of todays releases (2006 and 2007), including many mainstream releases, use styles and sounds derived from the late 90's tech-house era. Although the first half of the DJ mix compilation is better - it was definately one of the best compilations of the year 1996. John Acquaviva definately knows his music. Buy it if you can get it.

@ alcheme...In 1996, there was no "era of tech-house". Tech-house as a genre itself was established only from 1999 on. Before that, it was all called either techno, house, or techno-house. No "tech-house" term was in use. Boring tech-house that appeared in 1999, has nothing to do with techno-house music from 1995-1998, these are totally different styles, so people should distinguish those 2 eras and be careful when picking words to label something.
