Gossamer is the second studio album by American indie pop band Passion Pit, released on July 20, 2012 by Columbia Records. Recorded in Los Angeles and New York City in 2011, the album was produced by Chris Zane, who also produced the band's debut album Manners (2009), and lead singer Michael Angelakos. In an August 2010 interview with the NME, Angelakos stated that work had already begun on the follow-up to Manners, and that the band intended to release the album in the spring of 2011

On Gossamer, Passion Pit recast themselves as polyglots and pacesetters, tackling the currency of pop music head-on as a competitor rather than admiring it with a few well-placed press quotes. Gossamer is rife with dichotomy, one of which is that the hooks highest in fructose are lent to songs dealing with the most uncomfortable topic: money  . It's hard to think of a more noble goal for a pop album.

This album made me believe that suicide will never be an option. All the love in the world and all the best to everyone. I can't sit down and write without coming back to one of their albums. The combination of soul crushing despair and false optimism is expressed so perfectly in his work, and it's both understandable and depressing that people can hear his work and only get bubblegum happiness. I love these youtube tracks as albums and I wish the artists would put them up so I don't have to keep having them ripped away from me when youtube decides to pull them

Passion Pit music feels like an embodiment of Angelakos's own self-described experiences, with echoes of lyrical despair thinly veiled behind a layer of exuberant sound. Let's back up: "Gossamer" is "pop," with a huge dose of electronics thrown in for good measure. This describes a lot of music these days, but even discarding the lyrics, Angelakos injects layers of sound that elevate Passion Pit beyond the standard fare you're likely to hear on Clearchannel. Anyway, if you are a Passion Pit fan or just want to try something new or unique, I would recommend you giving this album a shot.
