Gap Band IV is the sixth album (contrary to the title) by The Gap Band, released in 1982 on Total Experience Records. The album reached on the Black Albums chart and on the Pop Albums chart, achieved platinum status, and is considered their most successful project.
This version is the Compton pressing plant variation and can be differentiated by the pressing plant information found in the runout grooves and by the plant code "26" printed on the labels. Released in a gatefold jacket.
Gap Band IV featured a complete lineup of up-tempo, mid-tempo, and alluring ballads. The first two are energized numbers seasoned around horrific basslines and Charlie Wilson's dazzling vocals. Respectively, they peaked at number one and two on the Billboard R&B chart. Mellow numbers always seem to retain that timeless appeal whereas up-tempo numbers fade with time. This album is different; the up-tempo numbers remain inviting as well. This is a great album.
