The album does embrace more of a soul sound than early Supremes efforts, and audiences (and radio stations) were perhaps picking that up more succinctly here; thus, it got to number seven on the R&B charts but only a paltry number 24 as a pop album. Ross is in excellent form throughout, and the arrangements reach for the lush side of soul, which would become her trademark as a solo artist.
Album: The Age Of Aquarius (1969). Charted: 11 1. Get the Sheet Music License This Song. This was written for the rock opera Hair, where it became an anthem for young people who grew their hair out and protested the US government. Ex-Soul Coughing frontman Mike Doughty used the "Let the sunshine in" refrain as the chorus for "Fort Hood," a song from his 2008 album Golden Delicious. More songs with celestial titles. More songs that won Grammys. More songs that were hippie anthems. Love the complete shift into Let the Sunshine In. Great brass. Beautiful singing by 5th Dimension. Open up your heart' etc. Great dance tune.
Claire Denis' "Let the Sun Shine In" is an exhausting and overwhelming experience, as is the choreography of romance and life it is set in. In the world of tinder, it's all 1s and 0s, but real life these days is much less binary and less immediately satisfying. You won't find that kind of easy romcom satisfaction in Denis' film.
