Help isn't so much a departure from Master's Bedroom but a refinement of what Thee Oh Sees accomplished on that record. Their approach is the same- a combination of the Cramps' zombie rockabilly with the rumble of the 60s underground- but everything about this album is tighter and more focused. Gone are the detours into funereal dirges, the patches of spaz-noise, and the momentary freakouts. Here you've got just 12 very good rock songs without an ounce of fat on them.

Drop is the fifteenth studio album by American psychedelic rock band Thee Oh Sees, released on April 19, 2014 on Castle Face Records. Primarily a collaboration between core member John Dwyer and regular collaborator Chris Woodhouse, the album is the ninth to be released under the name, Thee Oh Sees. The album was released following initial plans for Thee Oh Sees to take "a well deserved break," and was recorded during a "transitional period" for the band.

Oh Sees are an American rock band from San Francisco, California, formed in 1997. The band currently consists of primary songwriter and core member John Dwyer (vocals, guitar), alongside Tim Hellman (bass), Dense Ringgroin (drums), Paul Quattrone (drums) and Tomas Dolas (keyboards). Oh Sees sound incorporates a wide range of rock genres, including 1960s garage rock and psychedelic rock, punk rock, noise rock, art punk, and 1980s post-punk.

Their second album under that guise, 2009’s Help, lays the foundation for what would follow: John Dwyer’s unpolished yelps and rattling guitar melodies plus a brooding, bruising rhythm section. Ruby Go Home strikes an unlikely balance between grotty psych foreboding and candy-coloured pop catchiness, while Go Meet the Seed doubles down on their Nuggets-style retro vibes. John Dwyer’s San Francisco garage band had changed names several times before settling into a comfortable groove as Thee Oh Sees. Still, while most of the tunes on Help sound as purposefully messed up as ever, they're just a bit tidier and more straightforward here, and the stronger framework makes a positive difference. Similarly, the performances sound more unified and less chaotic here, as if everyone is following the same vision that lurks over the horizon for a change, and the ferocity of Dwyer's guitar is potent, locking into the crash-boom-bang of the bass and drums with impressive force.
