Moontribe - Encore / Star Search / Underground City album mp3

Following up on "Dance of The Seventh Hill", a track that's mostly known for its (often uncredited) remix by Tiësto, Vincent Krieck returns to his Moontribe project with a 3 track EP: Encore / Star Search / Underground City.Encore is decent effort, with a bright synth riff that is sure to grab people's attention. The track could have been shorter though, as it seems to drag on a bit, and I personally could have gone without the vocal snippets that pop up here and there, that seem to have been sampled from a French porno.Star Search is a bit more interesting. It features some nice filtered and slightly distorted synths, a pretty groovy main riff, and the short vocoded vocal sample is a cool touch as well. The ending does come a bit abrupt.Underground City doesn't emphasize melodic synths as much as the other two tracks, and instead relies on its very nice driving beat and bassline. Oddly enough, when the main synth is eventually introduced, the track seems to lose some of the momentum it had during the moments before the break. Both the break and the outro feature some nice dreamy pad sounds that I found enjoyable. All three tracks suffer a bit from having simple straightforward melodies. Their construction diverges slightly from the "basic" trance build, with mixed results: Encore feels too long, Star Search keeps on flowing without having a clear climax (which is not necessarily bad), while the synth driven (as opposed to beat driven) outro for Underground City works well, and increases the track's appeal.Overall, this is definitely not a terrible release in my opinion. It has its own atmosphere, and could be interesting I've you're looking for some less obvious trance tracks from around the turn of the millennium. But, on the other hand, you're not missing out too much if you'll never hear this record. Rating: 3/5
