Although mongrels have at times been considered somehow lesser than intentionally bred dogs, they are thought to be less susceptible to genetic health problems associated with dog breeding (based on the theory of heterosis), and have enthusiasts and defenders who prefer them to intentionally bred dogs. Although mongrels exhibit great variation, generations of uncontrolled breeding and environmental pressures may tend to shape them toward certain general average body types and characteristics known as landraces, some of which may be developed by people into new breeds such as the Alaskan husky. Unlike mixed-breeds, however, crossbred dogs are often the product of artificial selection – intentionally created by humans, whereas the term "mongrel" specifically refers to dogs that develop by natural selection, without planned intervention of humans.
The Mongrels dominate any event with their smooth lyrical delivery and rough beats. Their new album ‘World Domination’ continues on where ‘Overgrown Town left off. Front bar hip hop returns to our speakers, and it’s never been more welcome. The Cross Bred Mongrels are an Adelaide based hip hop outfit consisting of members Flak and DJ Debris. For years they have patrolled the underground circuit like vicious rottweilers, tearing up stages across the country. The acclaimed debut LP from the Mongrels ‘Overgrown Town’ set a new Australian standard, and brought forth a new style to music lovers around the world - front bar hip hop.

Feeling overgrown And topsy turvy on the throne You think you've won But keeping me cornered. I may be skin and bone And whatever soul still holds Getting stoned I'm loaded like a weapon tonight. I spin that wicked wheel In the cemetery Where one's lit up where the other's buried In this everchanging dream. Mongrels Have another name Mongrels Are coming for me again Mongrels Have another name Mongrels Are coming for me again. So don't let me out of your sight Or I'll be out outside tonight.
Sophomore album Overgrown offers a similar feeling, but Blake approaches the songs here with even more restraint and a subtly deconstructed take on pop. Subtlety is perhaps Blake's greatest attribute on Overgrown, with what could even be the album's heaviest moments blurring into a pleasantly melancholy whole through deft production choices.
