Bubblegum pop (also known as bubblegum music or simply bubblegum) is a genre of pop music with an upbeat sound contrived and marketed to appeal to pre-teens and teenagers, which may be produced in an assembly-line process, driven by producers and often using unknown singers. Bubblegum's classic period ran from 1967 to 1972. A second wave of bubblegum began two years later and ran until 1977 when disco took over.
Here it is! The album which started it all, the oddest chldlike/cynical genre of music ever. compiled by the legendary Neil Bogart and intensified by the RevOla team: the sound of Garage Rock meets nursery rhyme and sexual innuendo .
The set is an overview of the entire bubblegum movement from the mid-'60s until its nominative demise in the early '70s. It includes most of the key tracks from the Kasenetz & Katz hit factory, such as "Indian Giver," "Yummy Yummy Yummy," and the sublime "Quick Joey Small. Flesh-and-blood TV idols such as the Monkees and Bobby Sherman are represented alongside their cartoon-and-costume counterparts: the Archies, Josie & the Pussycats, and the Banana Splits. It's infectious fun from start to finish, and it may dawn on the listener that this music's influence reverberates to this very day.
The album takes its name from Ashiko’s catchy 1986 track Gumba Fire (Madlakadlaka). The spare arrangement for the most part lacks the distinct bubblegum synth sound, dominated instead by a lilting piano figure and more occasional synths. In a decade known for production excesses, the track can be identified as ‘80s by drum sounds and sheen, but like the rest of the album, the era’s signifiers are fairly restrained. The bubblegum funk synth textures are a part of the mix but take second billing to a wailing electric guitar solo, followed by a striking acoustic guitar line, as if telling the story of a people that has lost its electric spirit but whose music endures amidst suffering. There’s a political undercurrent running subtly throughout an album devoted to a subgenre with a misleadingly sunny name. But dance-floor sequencing winds down for languid rhythms that may be the best of the set.

More often, though, the album is wildly original. Lanegan can dredge up some startling imagery: drugs make him "stretch like bubblegum", bad news causes him to go "down like a satellite". The cacophonous and unsettling Can't Come Down appears to be influenced by drum'n'bass, of all things
