Teenage Fanclub are a Scottish alternative rock band formed in Bellshill in 1989. As of 2019, the band's lineup consists of Blake, McGinley, Francis MacDonald (drums, vocals), Dave McGowan (bass, vocals) and Euros Childs (keyboards, vocals).
Songs from Northern Britain is the sixth studio album by Scottish alternative rock band Teenage Fanclub. Produced by David Bianco and the group themselves, the album was released on 29 July 1997 through Creation Records. Teenage Fanclub's previous album, Grand Prix, had been seen as a comeback in their home of the UK, though its success elsewhere was limited.
Featuring an epic Pink Floyd-style album cover from Donald Milne - the man behind the gorgeous Songs photos - and two thick booklets that trace the band's history and feature reminiscences respectively, Four Thousand Seven Hundred and Sixty Six Seconds is a first-rate production.

Teenage Fanclub debuted in 1990 with the fine A Catholic Education. That release isn't representative of the rest of their catalogue, but it does show the band's jumping off point with a proto-grunge of sludgy, fuzzed-out guitars, and a budding penchant for melodies. The second album, Bandwagonesque (1991), drew critical raves and today is their canonized pop masterpiece. Teenage Fanclub has an apparent equilibrium, and a marked lack of egos. And since 2000, the group has averaged a seemingly leisurely five years between studio albums, ensuring their highest possible quality. And the albums are so good that no one is complaining.
Songs From Northern Britain. Two years later, in 1997, they returned with Songs From Northern Britain, a wise and ornate record about domestic life. By now, Blake had gotten married and become a father, and he could write brilliantly unguarded love songs like I Don’t Want Control of You and Start Again, with lyrics as poignant as his melodies.
