ABOUT: Film Punčke is the first collaboration of two young friends and filmmakers, Marinko Marinkić (18) and Filip Meštrović (19). They followed famous croatian all-girl rock band Punčke and gave us first look back on their story: three young girls from small city Vinkovci 5 years ago formed a rock band and conquered the scene. Marinko and Filip meet Punčke on various locations such as place where they had first rehearsal (Rubys basement in her parents home), student apartment in Zagreb as well as in Slovenia (Menza pri koritu, Ljubljana), where they have many fans.
Punčke are probably the best young rock band that came from Croatia in the last 10 years! Although they just reached another peak in their career supporting Queens of the Stone Age in Ljubljana and Zagreb in June 2014, Lucija (guitar and vocals), Ruby (drums) and Anja (bass guitar) are continuing to push things forward.
Today, Punčke are Lucija, Anja & Goran. Although they still haven't decided which genre they belong to, because each song is unique and has different influences, the audience describes them as ck band with a dose of Television, Patti Smith, Sonic Youth, Blood Red Shoes and others. jer boje su pretamne sada i more me preplave kad spavam. Punčke's EP is tightly-packed with an excellent mix of highs and lows on the intensity scale, most often exemplified by the alternating clean and crunchy guitars and soft and screaming vocals. I'm a fan of a good scream and by that, I mean a really good scream. And you can hear some of these beauties at the end of the opening track, "Ples". This album is an energetic grouping of tracks that blend lo-fi post-punk, new wave, and garage rock all together to create something new from old parts. It's is like one of those freakish beasts that crazy taxidermists create by fusing the parts of various animals together. The drums are pounding, the bass is rattling the low-end, the guitar is cutting out notes from notes of notes, and the vocals are a combination of an almost causal style with occasional backing shouts.
