Liquid Swords became the fourth solo release from members of the Clan following 36 Chambers, and GZA’s second solo release overall. The album was instantly regarded as a classic, cementing GZA’s reputation as a lyrical mastermind and furthering RZA’s reputation as a producer. It featured all 9 members of the Clan as well as Wu-affiliate Killah Priest. Liquid Swords Q&A. A&R Wendy Goldstein. Label Geffen Records.

Liquid Swords is the second solo studio album by American rapper and Wu-Tang Clan member GZA, released on November 7, 1995, by Geffen Records. Recording sessions for the album began midway through 1995 at producer RZA's basement studio in the New York City borough of Staten Island. The album heavily samples dialogue from the martial arts film Shogun Assassin and maintains a dark atmosphere throughout its course, while it incorporates lyrical references to chess, crime and philosophy.
Both the original album (with the bonus track) and instrumentals-only CD are included here. I can personally confirm that these are both, indeed, remastered audio compared to the original CD that I still have. For hip-hop fans growing up in the 20th century, Liquid Swords needs no introduction. It's simply a perfect match between raw lyrical muscle by GZA and dynamic production courtesy of RZA. The Chess Box set properly celebrates this amazing collection of tracks and its impact.
This song is by GZA/Genius and appears on the album Liquid Swords (1995). my father was famous. He cut off the heads of a hundred and thirty-one lords. It was a bad time for the empire. The shogun just stayed inside his castle - and he never came ou. eople said his brain was infected by devils.
Genius/GZA : Liquid Swords. Few experiences in music fandom equal giving a great album a second chance and realizing its greatness, and I consider myself quite lucky to have had it with GZA’s debut solo album, one of the 3 or 4 best Wu solo albums and one of the best albums of 1995. Every Wu solo album, in one way or another, feels more like a Wu-Tang Clan album with one guy getting more verses than everybody else. It’s the really great ones (Supreme Clientele, Only Built For Cuban Lin. Return To the 36 Chambers) that overcome this and give the emcee on the cover all the attention he deserves
Not only is RZA in top form, but every Clan member makes at least one appearance on the album, making it all the more impressive that Liquid Swords clearly remains the Genius' showcase throughout. All of his collaborators shape themselves to his quietly intimidating style, giving Liquid Swords a strongly consistent tone and making it an album that gradually slithers its way under your skin
