Weber: Invitation to the Dance. Although his career was cut short, Carl-Maria von Weber made a name for himself as the first true Romantic. Following in Mozart's operatic footsteps, he forged a Germanic style for international audiences with his Freischütz, Euryanthe and Obééron overtures. This program's featured work is Weber's famous Invitation to the Dance, performed by Jean-François Heisser in its original piano version, followed by a captivating orchestral arrangement by Berlioz performed by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra led by Karel Ancerl.
