Originally issued in 1995 as a series of six monthly EPs, the resulting two-disc compilation Hz is Main's masterpiece, an exploration of pure cosmic sound so deep and so vast that it seems to echo into infinity. Even in comparison to the soundscapes of the Firmament series, the noises and textures of Hz's six suites are stunningly evocative
The Hz double CD really does contain some of the best ambient sounds from Main. This recording is NOT like Motion Pool or Hydra-Calm. Main travels into a newly defined ambient space and sound tapestry where each composition is uniquely different from the last piece. Disc 1 starts with "Corona", a mighty soundscape with hazy, ethereal guitar riffs, nautical bass lines, and barely audible vocals.
An album is a collection of audio recordings issued as a collection on compact disc (CD), vinyl, audio tape, or another medium. Albums of recorded music were developed in the early 20th century as individual 78-rpm records collected in a bound book resembling a photograph album; this format evolved after 1948 into single vinyl LP records played at 33 1⁄3 rpm. Vinyl LPs are still issued, though album sales in the 21st-century have mostly focused on CD and MP3 formats.
