My LT-1049 USA first-edition pressing [hole-punched promo] includes "THE VAPORS BIO" insert printed on dark lavender (or light purple) 8.5"X11" paper; '80s typewriter font.It says:For a young and hopeful band playing the pub/club circuit, success can seem to be a lifetime away. But The Vapors were not destined to wait. Within a year of the band being formed by vocalist Dave Fenton, they had landed a record deal and a Top 3 single. One of the most exciting bands to emerge on the music scene for a very long time, The Vapors all hail from the Guildford area of England and began playing together towards the end of 1978 with the crumble of three local bands and evolved around vocalist/song-writer/rhythm guitarist Dave Fenton, a diminutive figure with an explosive stage presence. An ex-Solicitor, Dave struggled for more than five years to pass his exams but spent less than a year in practice before being drawn into the music business. The Vapors line-up was settled with ex Hospital Porter and Local Government Officer Edward Bazalgette on lead guitar; drummer Howard Smith was persuaded to forego a promising career with "Sainsburys" to join early in 79, and Steve (no relation) Smith who had been playing with two local bands, in between working on the unspecified night job at The Women's Royal Army Camp in Guildford, joined as bass player.Whilst playing the local circuit, The Vapors were seen by Bruce Foxton of The Jam and offered two dates on the May 79 Jam Tour, and later supported them on their Autumn Tour that year after signing to United Artists Records. The Vapors released their first single "Prisoners" in November 79, and their second single "Turning Japanese" was a huge hit and earned them their first silver disc. The band's debut album NEW CLEAR DAYS written by Dave Fenton and produced by Vic Smith has just been released and they will be embarking on a major UK your with a U.S. tour planned for fall, 1980.A band against which many top post-punk bands will be measured, The Vapors are set to become a musical force for the eighties.**************************************
