Walter E. "Furry" Lewis (March 6, 1893 or 1899 – September 14, 1981) was an American country blues guitarist and songwriter from Memphis, Tennessee. He was one of the first of the blues musicians active in the 1920s to be brought out of retirement and given new opportunities to record during the folk blues revival of the 1960s. Lewis was born in Greenwood, Mississippi. His birth year is uncertain.

Furry Lewis (March 6, 1899 - September 14, 1981) was a blues guitarist from Memphis, Tennessee, USA. He was one of the first of the old-time blues musicians of the 1920s to be brought out of retirement by the folk blues revival of the 1960s.

Walter Lewis was born in Greenville, Mississippi in 1893, and when the family moved to Memphis, his schoolmates gave him the name ‘Furry’. He built his first guitar himself and learned how to play from a local man, ‘Blind Joe’, who taught him ‘John Henry’ and ‘Casey Jones’, which remained in his repertoire for over seventy years.
