2014 two CD collection. BBC RADIO 2'S SOUNDS OF THE 80S is a unique compilation of tracks recorded by some of the biggest artists around, every track is an exclusive cover version of a song from the '80s and has been carefully chosen by the artist specifically for this album. All the tracks are previously unreleased. Artists include Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith, Olly Murs, Passenger, London Grammar & many more. Check out the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge series as well if you like offbeat and interesting cover versions of songs. One person found this helpful. Really good album with some interesting covers. The stand out track is James Blunt's cover of Elton John's "I guess that's why they call it the blues" - stripped right back to its bare core. Worth getting the album for this track alone.
An album cover is the front of the packaging of a commercially released audio recording product, or album. The term can refer to either the printed cardboard covers typically used to package sets of 10 in (25 cm) and 12 in (30 cm) 78-rpm records, single and sets of 12 in (30 cm) LPs, sets of 45 rpm records (either in several connected sleeves or a box), or the front-facing panel of a CD package, and, increasingly, the primary image accompanying a digital download of the album, or of its individual tracks.
The song "Bohemian Rhapsody", written by Freddie Mercury and originally recorded by rock band Queen for their album A Night at the Opera, has been covered by many different artists. The San Francisco Bay Area duo The Braids recorded an R&B version of "Bohemian Rhapsody" for the soundtrack to the Jon Lovitz movie High School High. It was also their debut single and became a major hit in Europe.
Originally a protective cover for the fragile goods below, the album sleeve soon evolved into an area of artistic expression in its own right. Strong album covers make a statement, entice the listener, create a first impression but with the rise of digital music, the great art of the record sleeve is under threat. We want to celebrate the best in album design so you can put this great art on your wall as well as in your record collection

While this album from the good folks at In-Akustik is, ostensibly, a covers album (though it does feature Sophie B. Hawkins performing an acoustic version of her hit "Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover"), Great Cover Versions' true purpose lies not in the faithfulness of its artists to the source material, but in the fidelity of the recordings. Utilizing high-definition RESO mastering and pressed on a special polycarbonate plastic that improves light transmission, the album serves as audiophile reference material.
Maybe the truly awful album cover is as rare a treasure as the truly great one. Maybe the album cover is as it always was, despite so rarely appearing in a physical form: sometimes an inspired work of art, sometimes a half-assed, tossed-off marketing job, sometimes a half-baked, so-bad-its-good (or not) concept, completely unrelated to the music. It can sometimes seem like all we have left is nostalgia, but nostalgia can be done well, as in 1989 (even if that record’s cover does evoke, in part, an image from Joni Mitchell’s weird stint in blackface). The collection now numbers in the several hundred thousands-upwards of 800,000, according to its results counter-but some of the uploads are not yet complete with images. Designer: Trevor Jackson. Multi-talented artist and musician Trevor Jackson (of Playgroup, amongst others) produced this beautiful piece of Peter Saville-esque graphic design for this Soulwax remix album. The cover to their landmark album perfectly encapsulated what they were about, the group encircling the listener, as you stare down the barrel of a gun held by Eazy-E. The idyllic blue Californian sky provides the unlikely backdrop - all may have seemed sunny, but trouble was brewing in Compton. A fantastic cover, following on from Central Station's brilliant work on Bummed and the Madchester Rave On EP, they hit top form with this. The cover was a perfect representation of the band's sound: an eclectic and colourful cut 'n' paste collage of various influences thrown together but somehow creating something brilliant, exciting and cool.
