Released February 10, 2004. The College Dropout Tracklist. Following success producing for numerous contemporaries including Talib Kweli, Beanie Sigel and most notably Jay-Z, Kanye West released his debut studio album, The College Dropout, on February 10th, 2004. The album features string arrangements, choirs and his signature soul sampling, frequently branded as chipmunk-esque for its sped-up and high pitched nature. Contrary to the popular gangster-persona lyrics that was so popular in hip-hop at the time, his lyrics on the other hand often revolved around themes of family, materialism, religion and racism
The week The College Dropout came out, three singles featuring his handiwork were in the Top 20, including his own "Through the Wire. A daring way to introduce himself to the masses as an MC, the enterprising West recorded the song during his recovery from a car wreck that nearly took his life - while his jaw was wired shut
Kanye West’s The College Dropout was one of the most astonishing debut albums in hip-hop history. Multi-faceted, idiosyncratic and packed with enough pop nous to conquer the charts, it brought him both critical acclaim and huge commercial success. Success certainly didn’t happen overnight, though. Released on 10 February 2004, The College Dropout reached N. on the US Billboard 200 chart and won Best Rap Album at the 2005 Grammy Awards. Proving the doubters wrong, Kanye West had succeeded on his own terms, kicking off a career that would see him become hip-hop’s most enigmatic and innovative artist. The College Dropout Explicit Lyrics. LP (12" album, 33 rpm). Kanye West Format: Vinyl. Most of the songs that aren't singles could pass for such, and while it's my standard practice to enjoy music by listening to whole albums through, The College Dropout is definitely one of the most iPodable I've heard.
