Except for the Symphony No. 92 in G major, "Oxford," which Haydn took with him when he received an honorary doctorate at Oxford University in 1791, and the Symphony No. 99 in E flat major, which was composed on a return to Vienna in 1793, the symphonies between them were written for Salomon's first series of concerts at Hanover Square, which brought. Haydn great recognition and remuneration. This double-SACD set from LSO Live presents Colin Davis with the London Symphony Orchestra in bold and vigorous concert performances that offer extraordinary sonorities in the spacious multichannel recording.

Haydn: Symphonies No. 2,. has been added to your Cart. These are live recording from London's Barbican Hall during the final years of the life of Sir Colin Davis. They are partly similar to his earlier RCOA Haydn: 82, 83, 86-88, 91-104. 86 and 87 are still not CD'd, alas) I wonder whether Davis intended to complete the London Symphony set. This new quintet contains many qualities prominent in the RCOA set but they are not identical. The following qualities sound either new or intensified

The London symphonies, sometimes called the Salomon symphonies after Johann Peter Salomon who introduced London to Joseph Haydn, were composed by Joseph Haydn between 1791 and 1795. They can be categorized into two groups: Symphonies Nos. 93–98, which were composed during Haydn's first visit to London, and Symphonies Nos. 99–104, composed in Vienna and London for Haydn's second visit. Every London Symphony, apart from No. 95, has a slow introduction to the first movement.
The recordings on this new album, featuring the London Symphony Orchestra under the late Sir Colin Davis, were made in 2011 and feature the famous London Symphonies by Joseph Haydn alongside his Oxford Symphony. Haydn conceived his innovative late symphonies on a large scale, and they surpassed even his own normal high standards and were an enormous success.
